drirelease® Sponsors Student Design Contest
May 1, 2011
Wilmington, DE, May 2, 2011. Optimer Brands, the company that markets both DRIFIRE® Comfortable FR Wear™ and drirelease® with FreshGuard™, has launched a drirelease design contest with a selected group of students at Seattle Pacific University that will culminate with the selection of winners at this year’s Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in August.
Students participating in the contest are required to submit design boards that showcase an original ensemble that is appropriate for use in outdoor, summertime activities and also accommodates cross-over use of garments in urban settings and activities. Additionally, designs must incorporate drirelease fabrics. Final designs will be showcased at the drirelease booth in the 2011 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, where winners will be selected using two voting mechanisms: a “people’s choice” winner, where any OR attendee can cast a vote, and a “judge’s panel” winner selected by a panel of outdoor apparel experts from well-known brands including ExOfficio, Lucy, and others.
“We are thrilled to give a group of talented design students the opportunity to learn more about performance fabric technology and how it can be incorporated into fashion and everyday garments that provide inherent wicking, fast drying, and odor control,” said Chris Moore, General Manager of Optimer Labs. “We hope this experience will challenge participants to meet the design needs of our dynamic marketplace and position them for successful careers in the future” concluded Moore.
“The superior wicking, fast-drying and odor control benefits offered by drirelease with FreshGuard® are ideally suited for designing garments that can be worn both during active occasions as well as in everyday settings,” said Ana Torres, Director of Marketing for drirelease. “This contest will not only help to showcase the versatility of our product, but also provide fantastic exposure for a select group of young, talented designers that can translate into future internship or full time job opportunities for them.”
Winners of the contest will be notified after the conclusion of this year’s Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, and announced publicly thereafter.

Optimer Brands, formerly known as Optimer Inc., a Sterling Capital Partners company, is based in Chicago, IL, with operations in Wilmington, DE.
Founded in 2001, Optimer Brands conducts textile research, development and marketing and has a scientific staff credited with over 100 patents and developments. drirelease® is a registered trademark of Optimer Brands. It is a patented, intimate blend of synthetic and natural fibers that combine wicking and quick drying attributes into a single yarn. Instead of spreading the moisture across a fabric’s surface, drirelease actually pushes it to the outside of a garment, releasing water and perspiration faster than any other performance fabric on the market. drirelease includes the added benefit of FreshGuard®, an odor neutralizer embedded in all drirelease fabrics that virtually eliminates odor without using harmful chemicals. All drirelease attributes are inherent to our yarns, meaning they will not wear or wash out. For more information, visit www.drirelease.com.
FreshGuard® is a registered trademark of Optimer Brands. It is an odor neutralizer embedded in all drirelease fabrics. It eliminates odors in garments by blocking odor-causing sebaceous body oils from attaching to the fabric – also stopping the attraction of odor-causing bacteria. Not an anti-microbial or anti-bacterial, which attack bacteria that possess positive functions, FreshGuard is environmentally friendly. For more information, visit www.drirelease.com.BACK TO NEWS
