drirelease® Announces Winners of its Winter Design Contest

Chicago, IL—Optimer Brands, the company that markets drirelease® with FreshGuard®, is thrilled to announce the two winners of its design contest that took place at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Optimer Brands teamed up with the University of Wisconsin- Stout and Professor Dr. Gindy Neidermyer, Apparel Design and Development Program Director and Associate Professor, to create a drirelease design contest. Students were to create design boards showcasing a garment system to outfit outdoor winter sports enthusiasts in a way where fashion meets function.

The two winners of the contest were Alyssa Fechtner, who won the People’s Choice vote, and Carissa Reilly, who captured the Judges’ Panel vote. Ms. Fechtner’s design featured a cross-country skiing backpack jacket. The backpack jacket featured a built in backpack that can easily transition into a jacket to store snacks and water while skiing. It showcased interesting details such as glow in the dark stitching, hand warmer pockets and elbow pads. Ms. Reilly created a mountain climbing ensemble, featuring a base layer and shell. Some of her impactful features included foam padding inserts in the lining to reduce pressure points from a backpack, as well as a large back pocket that can transform the shell into a pillow for overnight camping, or foam padding can be inserted to relieve pressure from a harness. Both designs utilized drirelease technology to take their creations to the next level of performance and functionality.

Judges included industry specialists: Jason Duncan of Outdoor Research, Tracey Mammolito of Mountain Hardwear, Kate Larramendy of Horny Toad, Jen Rankin of EMS, Chris Moore of DRIFIRE and Fany Mimiague of Lole.

“Carissa’s thought process was excellent, and the detailed description of her design helped to relay the creativity of her garment. It was not just a functional piece, but it was also aesthetically pleasing,” said Ms. Larramendy.

Both contest winners received Apple iPad 2’s as prizes. To see all the submissions, please visit the drirelease Facebook page at www.facebook.com/drirelease.
