Now! 100% Recycled drirelease® with FreshGuard
April 8, 2009
Wilmington, DE April 9, 2009 Optimer Brands released a new eco-friendly version of drirelease® with FreshGuard® called drirelease E.C.O. [Environmentally Correct Origins™] last year that uses recycled polyester and organic cotton. Now, drirelease E.C.O. 2nd Nature – a 100% recycled drirelease product will join the E.C.O. group to give customers more options.
A patented moisture transport system, drirelease is constructed of an intimate blend of synthetic and natural fibers that accelerates the water release rate of wet fabric. Since being developed, Optimer has introduced over a dozen adaptations of its drirelease technology in addition to its successful, original virgin polyester and cotton version, including drirelease Wool (polyester plus merino or nonmuseled wool), drirelease Bamboo (polyester plus bamboo) and others.
New drirelease 2nd Nature combines post-consumer recycled polyester with post-industrial recycled cotton made from garment manufacturing clip waste – yielding a product made from 100% recycled materials.
In addition to the eco-friendly origins of new drirelease 2nd Nature, all drirelease with FreshGuard products are environmentally sound. Unlike competing moisture management products, neither drirelease nor FreshGuard technology will wash out, diminish over time, or release harmful chemicals into the environment.
To produce the new E.C.O. product, Optimer has teamed up with Ferre-Hickory, LLC, a joint venture between Hilaturas Ferre (Spain) and North Carolina Hickory Throwing Company. Ferre-Hickory will produce the new drirelease E.C.O. yarn that will incorporate their revolutionary 2nd Nature 100% recycled cotton. 2nd Nature significantly reduces the amount of waste in landfills, as well as the water, pesticides, dyes and electricity used to produce and process cotton. 2nd Nature is also certified by Oeko-Tex to be free of harmful chemicals.
Optimer is just now finishing its testing and approval process for what will become a fully recycled technical performance yarn. “For many of our customers, ‘green’ is not only becoming a bigger issue, it is becoming the issue. At Optimer, environmental concerns also take priority. We’re excited to be able to offer them not just one but two new ‘green’ products, to expand their choices” says Karen Deniz, drirelease director of marketing.
The original drirelease E.C.O. can already be found in socks at Keen and shirts at both Outdoor Research and Adidas Outdoor.

Optimer Brands, formerly known as Optimer Inc., a Sterling Capital Partners company, is based in Chicago, IL, with operations in Wilmington, DE.
Founded in 2001, Optimer Brands conducts textile research, development and marketing and has a scientific staff credited with over 100 patents and developments. drirelease® is a registered trademark of Optimer Brands. It is a patented, intimate blend of synthetic and natural fibers that combine wicking and quick drying attributes into a single yarn. Instead of spreading the moisture across a fabric’s surface, drirelease actually pushes it to the outside of a garment, releasing water and perspiration faster than any other performance fabric on the market. drirelease includes the added benefit of FreshGuard®, an odor neutralizer embedded in all drirelease fabrics that virtually eliminates odor without using harmful chemicals. All drirelease attributes are inherent to our yarns, meaning they will not wear or wash out. For more information, visit www.drirelease.com.
FreshGuard® is a registered trademark of Optimer Brands. It is an odor neutralizer embedded in all drirelease fabrics. It eliminates odors in garments by blocking odor-causing sebaceous body oils from attaching to the fabric – also stopping the attraction of odor-causing bacteria. Not an anti-microbial or anti-bacterial, which attack bacteria that possess positive functions, FreshGuard is environmentally friendly. For more information, visit www.drirelease.com.BACK TO NEWS
